Under the umbrella of Sheep Gate Inc., House of Our Heroes was created to focus specifically on veterans and the crisis surrounding the lack of available and affordable housing. Working with several companies, cities, and counties, our focus has centered on Central Oregon.
House of Our Heroes: A Veteran’s Village, is a project that consists of building affordable housing solutions for houseless veterans in La Pine, Oregon. These Veterans would otherwise be living on the outskirts of our town, often succumbing to the harsh Oregon winters.
Through this process, we have identified a need for not only housing, but private housing. We have identified a need for tiny homes in order to shelter veterans. There is also a possibility of creating a boarding house type of facility that will allow veterans to live in a more barrack friendly type of residence if that is what they are seeking for transition or familiarity.
We have chosen a location, La Pine, Oregon, and met with the local County Commissioners, Mayor, and a few companies willing to help us with our vision. We have also met with a local architecture firm to put together basic plans and rendering of what is possible.
This phase is all about location. While we may not be in the city of La Pine, we have chosen a location that is close enough to the city while offering close services that veterans are familiar with already. We are in the process of a land acquisition.
Now that we have found the land we would like to purchase, we are in the process of trying to acquire funds through grants and other means available to us. This is where you can help partner with us to make this vision a reality. Every dollar collected goes toward this project.
Once the land is acquired, we will need to grade the land and bring in services from the street. This requires working with city planners and architects to ensure that we are setting up the property for all future building phases. This will kickstart our tiny home village.
While we are in the process of grading the land and setting foundations for the tiny homes along with utility services, we will need to raise money for the tiny homes themselves. The estimated cost per tiny home is about $50k with basic furnishing and amenities. All tiny homes will be ADA compliant.
Phase 3 is the largest part of this vision, a central boarding house. We are planning a 10,000sqft 2-story boarding house that will include a cafeteria, medical services, housing, dorm like amenities, and space for future voluntary services provided to veterans to help them develop skills to join society and the work force.
Very soon we will be starting a GoFundMe in order to collect donations. There you will be able to follow the phases and progress. We will be posting updates to the project and associated timelines. As the project progresses, we will also begin to include more media so you can see what your dollars are doing to improve the lives of veterans and stop the growing statistics.
But you don't have to wait until then in order to donate. You can already search for us on GoFundMe and donate, or, you can scroll below and donate via Paypal.
